How Pregnant Women Protect Themselves From Zika
The first known baby to be born with birth defects due to the Zika virus in the mainland U.S. faces a poor prognosis. The child was delivered in New Jersey and reportedly has microcephaly and an underdeveloped brain. The mother contracted the virus in Honduras. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Dr. Tom Frieden says the challenges faced by Zika are unprecedented. Pregnant women who have been in places where Zika is spreading are encouraged to get tested for the virus.
