Have you ever tried walking in a straight line with your eyes closed? It's remarkably hard to keep on track. Dr Emily Grossman explains why. Visual information plays a key role in the way we orient ourselves. Hanging on to visual reference points allows us to keep walking in a straight line. Take away the ability to see these reference points and walking straight becomes nearly impossible.
